About the New Art Dialogue Series
The Contemporary Museum's New Art Dialogues Series presents lectures and conversations by distinguished artists, critics, art historians, and curators whose work is defining the field of contemporary art, at the forefront of critical discourse, and responsive to the cultural, social and political issues of our times.

Carlos Basualdo, Philadelphia Museum of Art Curator of Contemporary Art, comes to Baltimore to share his experiences curating on the global stage. The curator of numerous international exhibitions, Basualdo most recently served as lead organizer of Bruce Nauman's celebrated exhibition in the United States Pavilion at the recent Venice Bienniale exhibition.
Prior to moving to Philadelphia in 2005, Basualdo was Chief Curator of Exhibitions at the Wexner Center for the Arts, where he organized a lively series of exhibitions and programs. Basualdo has also organized and contributed to many exhibitions around the world over the past decade including serving as curator for The Structure of Survival, as part of the 50th Venice Biennial in 2003, and co-curator of Documenta XI in Kassel, Germany, in 2002.

Richard Vine presents NEW CHINA/NEW ART, a lecture that explores the radical recent changes to art and culture in China. A frequent visitor to the People's Republic, Vine offers first-hand accounts of the artists, exhibitions, and institutions that are now impacting the world's oldest continuous civilization and its newest global player. Vine will discuss various movements in post-Tiananmen Chinese contemporary art while examining the works by many key figures, including Huang Yong Ping, Xu Bing, Chen Zhen, Zhang Huan, Song Dong and Ai Weiwei.

Artist Mel Chin is known for both his small sculptures and large-scale community-based works addressing pressing political and social issues. Over the years, his works have addressed such issues as environmental sustainability, the health implications of pollutants, and planet's endangered biodiversity. Chin travels to Baltimore to discuss his recent work including his current project, THE FUNDRED DOLLAR BILL PROJECT, a community-based artwork that is engaging young people in neighborhoods across the country to raise awareness about childhood lead poisoning.
