Impact: Revealing Sources for Contemporary Art
September 25, 1999 - January
03, 2000
The inaugural exhibition of the Contemporary
Museum's new site explores the underlying themes behind current
art, as well as the historical sources that have had a profound
impact on contemporary forms of artistic expression. The
exhibition, titled Impact: Revealing Sources for Contemporary
Art, was designed to assist a broad audience in understanding
the diverse language of new art. Impact suggests ways in
which new art has developed from earlier ground-breaking
work. The exhibition presents a selection of leading artists
who have had a profound and ongoing influence on the recent
directions and new strategies of current art. The exhibition
includes the presentation and discussion of a wide variety
of forms including painting, photography, sculpture, installation
art, performance art, video, sound, book art, art and language,
art and identity, and art and social activism.

Acconci, Laurie Anderson, John Baldessari, Joseph Beuys,
