Insite 98: Mysterious Voyages: Exploring the Subject of Photography
February 07, 1999 - May 02, 1999

InSite: BT Alex. Brown Building, Downtown, Baltimore

Presented in an unfinished site in the new BT Alex. Brown Building in downtown Baltimore, Mysterious Voyages explored the impact of a wide range of styles and approaches to current photography. The subject of recent contemporary photography has moved beyond realistic, instantly recognizable images, and relates more to the imagination and inner life of the viewer. The exhibition offers fresh insight into different visual interactions experienced by the audience when viewing the work of these artists. The exhibition included 60 large-scale photographs and photographic installations by 30 artists from the USA, Europe, Canada, and Latin America.

Artists included in the exhibition: Mac Adams, John Baldessari, Uta Barth, Berndt & Hilda Bechers, Miguel Rio Branco, Sophie Calle, Larry Clark, Hannah Collins, Gregory Crewdson, Jean Dunning, Adam Fuss, Gilbert & George, Andreas Gursky, Connie Imboden, Alfredo Jaar, Geoffrey James, Will Larsen, Louise Lawler, Robert Mapplethorpe, Donald Moffett, Shirin Neschat, Tony Oursler, Martha Rosler, John Schabel, Andres Serrano, Cindy Sherman, Lorna Simpson, Thomas Struth, Hiroshi Sugimoto, James Welling.
