Get Your Life!
Get Your Life! (GYL!) is a youth-led production company that creates collaborative video projects between middle school students, practicing artists, and institutions. Using a broad curriculum, the program puts adults to work executing the designs and direction of young people, resulting in a range of video works such as short films, television shows, commercials, and music videos.
The program was adopted by The Contemporary in 2016, following the promotion of Lee Heinemann as our Education Director. Lee founded GYL! in 2014 during an extended residency at 901 Arts—a grassroots community center dedicated to providing art and music programs to the children and teens of the Better Waverly neighborhood—which is still an active and ongoing program partner.
